Lancia developed the ECV as a prototype Group S car to replace the Delta S4 for the 1987 WRC.

Due to some horrific accidents in 1986 Group B was canned by FISA, and so too was its would be successor Group S, which was to have been the replacement category in '87. Lancia had already built a prototype ECV with the KKK twin turbo engine developing around 600 BHP.

The Delta S4 was arguably the most ambitious Group B rally car as its 1800cc inline 4 cylinder engine benefited from both a turbocharger and a supercharger thus ensuring as smooth a power delivery as possible. Similar to other Group B supercars it competed against it had a steel spaceframe chassis clothed in a composite body and weighing in at less than 900kgs with over 450bhp on tap it was a phenomenal competitor, always at the forefront of the formula.

The Lancia Rally 037 was specially made to win the world rally championship and was very successful in this area as it was the first car built to the new Group B FISA Rules. The project, developed thanks to the close collaboration among LANCIA, ABARTH and PININFARINA, finalized in its definitive version on 2nd May 1982 at the 59th Turin International Motorshow.

"A Scuderia Ferrari anuncia que chegou a um acordo com o piloto Fernando Alonso. O contrato cobre três temporadas, começando em 2010", diz o primeiro parágrafo.
